Eastern Region

The Eastern region was formed in 1981 and is probably the largest region in the UK. It stretches from the Humber down to north of the Thames, East to Norfolk and Suffolk and west across to Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. Our Ex President, the Late Anthony Jack chaired the first meeting and then handed the baton over to Tony Huston to steer the region forward. We were fortunate that in the early days, many influential and highly active falconers lived in the region, including Anthony. Many of the founding members are still active within the region including Ray Turner, Wilf Farrance, John Loft and Tony James.

Today, the region is highly active with a good mix of both highly experienced long and shortwingers, and keen new members to both the club and sport. We have  active social media platforms including a Whatsapp group that is used as both a platform to let all members know what is going on in the region but also to request help from other members. This is always useful for both experienced and non-experienced members.

Regional meetings are difficult due to the size of the region, however more local social evenings are often arranged and we have an AGM and annual summer BBQ organised centrally in the region, which is always well attended.

Members are very generous in giving up the land for field meets and we have regular longwing, shortwing and Eagle meets across the region. Every four years the BFC International fieldmeet is held within the region at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire which is a fantastic event for both spectators and those flying birds. This is certainly an event not to be missed.

If you have any questions regarding joining  the region or getting support to move forward with your falconry journey, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
