Wessex Region

Wessex Region was established in 2009 following the split from the expansive Southern region. The region boasts an enthusiastic membership, all active falconers. Our members fly a range of birds, including Golden eagles, various longwings, broadwings, and shortwings.

We hold regular informal field meets, which are well attended and often conclude in a local hostelry, where we discuss the flights of the day. Officially, the region’s meetings take place on the last Thursday of the month at The Swan Inn, Wilton, SN8 3SS, for food, drinks, and falconry chit-chat, as well as occasional talks and workshop evenings.

We also have annual events, including a club BBQ, a clay shoot, a Christmas meal (which is always well attended!), and the end-of-season field meet. We warmly welcome newcomers to the sport, and of course, to the region. Our members are always ready to offer advice and assistance when needed – we are a friendly and welcoming bunch!

Our falconers tend to hunt in small, individual parties and often visit other members’ land under invitation. Our members (those who attend regularly) come from across South Wales, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, and Sussex – and we welcome more!

Feel free to come along and see us. You are welcome to contact any of the committee members (or any other region member), and we will be happy to introduce you to the region.

We look forward to seeing you, whether you’re a prospective new member or just coming for a visit to say hello!
