Yorkshire Region
About the region
We were formed on the 19th February 1996 and incorporated members from the Yorkshire, South Humberside, and North Lincolnshire areas. We started with around 50 members, growing to become one of the largest regions of the BFC. Our original committee included our current President, Steve Smith, who still serves as the regional chairman, with Paul Denton as secretary and Antony Robertshaw as regional treasurer, a role he continues to this day.
The region went from strength to strength, holding regular field meetings on some of the finest estates in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Under the guidance of the late club director and our regional secretary John Callaghan, we enjoyed some of the finest field meetings at both regional and national levels, thanks to John’s passion and leadership, particularly on some of the top grouse moors in the country.
Like many regions, we experienced a slight decline in recent years, but we’re now on the rise again with many new and returning members joining our community. We are in the process of restarting field meetings, and this November we will host a two-day event in the Yorkshire Dales, featuring falcons at grouse, as well as broad/short wings at rabbit and pheasant.
